The Perigal Memorial, Wennington, Essex

This memorial stone in the churchyard of St Mary & St Peter, Wennington, commemorates Henry Perigal ('Cyclops'), 1801-1898, a mathematician who was noted for discovering a proof of Pythagoras' Theorem, as illustrated in a diagram carved on the side of the monument.
   The Perigal family connects with the Attfield family tree through the marriage between Arthur St Lew Perigal and Constance Adeline Fox, the stepdaughter of Alice Isabel Attfield (1906).
